Washington, DC, July 21, 2026 — Ahmad Juwaini, Chairman of Dompet Dhuafa (DD), accompanied by Sitti Sahro Locke, Executive Director of Dompet Dhuafa USA, and Murniati Mukhlisin, International Ambassador of Dompet Dhuafa, conducted a series of strategic visits to the Ford Foundation, the United Nations Headquarters, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Washington, DC, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in New York, and ANERA on Friday, July 17, and Monday, July 20, 2026.
During the visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Ahmad Juwaini sought an update on Dompet Dhuafa’s membership status, which was recommended by the UN Committee on NGOs and subsequently approved by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), granting the organization Special Consultative Status in 2016.
“The Special Consultative Status granted by UN ECOSOC remains valid for Dompet Dhuafa. To maximize its benefits, the organization should maintain regular communication with the United Nations,” said Muhammad Taufan, representing the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations (PTRI) in New York.
This status enables Dompet Dhuafa to participate in relevant UN meetings and conferences, submit written statements within its areas of expertise, contribute to discussions on emerging issues at ECOSOC sessions, and engage directly with various UN agencies, particularly those working in humanitarian affairs, social development, and sustainable development.
Ahmad Juwaini also expressed Dompet Dhuafa’s interest in serving as the primary partner in Indonesia for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), which coordinates humanitarian organizations worldwide to ensure rapid and effective responses to humanitarian crises. UN OCHA is responsible for coordinating humanitarian assistance, disseminating critical emergency information, and advocating for communities affected by conflicts and major disasters.
“We hope that this international recognition will further enhance Dompet Dhuafa’s credibility among the public, especially our donors (muzakki), and strengthen our ability to serve in the fields of humanitarian assistance, healthcare, education, and social development, ultimately contributing to poverty alleviation in Indonesia,” Ahmad Juwaini stated.
During a separate meeting with the CEO of ANERA, an international humanitarian organization headquartered in Washington, DC, Ahmad Juwaini reaffirmed Dompet Dhuafa’s commitment to expanding its global humanitarian role in assisting disaster victims and vulnerable communities around the world, particularly the people of Palestine.
